On Theory (01)

Seeing the SPACE, an abstract term, as the content of the form of the building in the main subject matter in modern architecture.

Citrohan House Plaster Model
Le Corbusier

In Modernism, space is seen as isotropic, homogeneous in every direction, abstract limited by boundaries or edges, and rational or logically inferential from part to whole, or from whole to part.

Temporary Pavilion Model
Aldo Van Eyck

In Postmodernism, however, space is specific, unlimited or ambiguous in zoning and ‘irrational’ in the relation of parts to whole. The space has unclear boundaries and extends infinitely without apparent edge.

Digital Beijing Building

But of all structures that's been erected for the 2008 Olympics, only the Digital Beijing Building is the only one for me that i like. It is the control and data center of the event. With its digital design schemes bearing a resemblances to a circuit board or a bar code, it only represents the highest technological content an Olympic event has ever had. A competition design piece won by a starting Beijing based design studio of Studio Pei-Zhu.

For Turning Over

I been so busy on my new job that I haven't post anything here lately but now I try to catch up. The project that we're handling now is a 38-storey high end residential tower in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City. Actually it's nearing its completion and all that must be done are wrapping up of all balances of works and preparing it for the turning over of the project to the owner.
Maybe after this, I could continue my regular post here. I try also to post more information regarding the said building after the turning over is completed and the inauguration has take place.

Alvar Aalto : Baker House Dormitory

Aerial View
Exterior View

The site is located on a heavily-trafficked street along the Charles River. In order to avoid as much as possible the disturbing view out onto this street, a curving plan form was chosen. By this means, no room was oriented at right angles to the street and its traffic. It is well known how much more tranquil it is to look, for example, from a diagonal line of sight out of the windows of a moving train at the passing landscape. An attempt to make use of this phenomenon was made with the form of the building: the windows face diagonally to the passing automobiles and thus afford a quieter environment for the person within the room. The stairway system is housed in a paneled structure rising up the north side of the building which allows an unobstructed view along its entire length from the lowest landing.

Luneta Hotel

As a start for my planned project for this new year on mapping out noteworthy and significant building in the metropolis and posting them in here, i would like to start of by featuring one of the first high rise building in the country during late 1800's and considered as the first hotel of it's kind in the orient, the Luneta Hotel. From the looks and design of it had seen it's own grandeur and couple of famous people from this era had took residences in one of its rooms. I hope it will be save from the wrecking ball and be adaptive reused and restored from its original neo-modern beauty with french influence design. Will post more information and picture of it for the coming days.
